Breast Augmentation

When it comes to breast augmentation, Dr. Steely strives for proportional perfection and harmony. A beautiful body is one in which hips, shoulders, waist, and chest are all in aesthetic balance.

Why Breast Augmentation

■ Breast augmentation may be of interest to you if you
feel that having smaller breasts limits what fashions
you can wear and have difficulty finding proportional
clothing to flatter your figure.
■ You believe that having a small breast size creates a
negative impression and they make you feel un-
comfortably self-conscious.
■ You have lost an excessive amount of weight and
consequently your breasts have lost size and shape.
■ Your breasts are sagging and have lost firmness, and you
need augmentation as part of a breast lift procedure
■ Your pregnancy has changed your breast volume
and shape.
■ You have significantly asymmetric breasts and
seek balance.

Generally, you must be fully developed, physically and emotionally healthy, and have realistic expectations of your surgery.
Your Initial Breast Augmentation Consultation

During your initial breast augmentation consultation, you will meet with Dr. Steely and his staff to discuss your goals. They will review your medical history and they may take photographs (the “before” shots) as part of your medical record. Dr. Steely will examine your breasts, evaluate their size and shape, the elasticity of the skin and where nipples are located. Based on his findings and your goals, he will determine which surgical technique will benefit you the most. Also, Dr. Steely will review the risks associated with breast enhancement surgery and address your expectations. Of course, feel free to ask any questions you may have at this time.

As with any procedure, a consultation and preoperative examination will determine a more accurate quote of the cost.
Preparing for Breast Augmentation Surgery

Dr. Steely will provide you with instructions in preparation for breast enhancement surgery, including guidelines on eating and drinking, smoking, and taking or avoiding certain vitamins and medication. Dr. Steely may recommend a mammogram. After surgery, make sure you have prearranged for help and care.
During Breast Augmentation Surgery

During breast enhancement surgery, you will require anesthesia – after all it is a surgical procedure. Dr. Steely will make small incisions to allow entry for the breast implants. The implants are placed either partially under the pectoral muscle or on top of the muscle and under the breast glands, depending on the thickness of your tissue and its ability to adequately cover the implant. The breast enhancement procedure usually takes one hour. Most patients choose to go home the same day as surgery.

Silicone or Saline?

Depending on your needs, body shape and breast anatomy, Dr. Steely may use either saline or silicone implants. Both types are approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and come in a variety of shapes, surface textures and sizes, depending on the breast shape to be achieved.

After Breast Augmentation Surgery

Immediately after your breast augmentation, you should have someone to be with you. You will feel tired and a little sore for a few days. Most discomfort can be managed by medication prescribed by Dr. Steely. You will have a postoperative visit with Dr. Steely within a week of your procedure. Within one week, you should be able to engage in non-strenuous activities and within several weeks, return to exercising. Swelling should subside after a fewweeks and your final results will be evident. After a few months, scars with begin to fade.

Breast Lift

In performing a breast lift, Dr. Steely aims for natural looking breasts that are as close to perfect proportional size and shape as possible, harmonizing with hips, shoulders, and waist for a totally satisfying look.

Why a Breast Lift

The breast lift procedure may be of interest to you if your breasts have lost elasticity, shape and firmness due to pregnancy, nursing or the force of gravity. The breast lift procedure involves raising sagging breasts and nipples to a higher, firmer position and reshaping them. Also, a breast lift can reduce the size of areola, the darker skin around the nipple.

Breast Lift without Implants

If you have sufficient breast tissue and do not necessarily want to look bigger, just better, Dr. Steely can reshape your tissue area so that you get a breast lift with implant fullness, without implants. Using short incisions to minimize scarring, Dr. Steely can create a softer, fuller, naturally augmented breast by raising sagging breast tissue from underneath to the top of the breasts reshaping them, making them fuller on top and forming cleavage.

Not incorporating implants and not requiring an overnight hospital stay, the breast reshaping breast lift is more economical. It is important to keep in mind that without implants, the cleavage and breast can be made only as full as the amount of breast tissue you have.
Breast Lifts with Implants

For patients with small breasts and insufficient tissue for breast reshaping only, a breast lift with implants is an alternative. Also, patients that have implants along with their breast lift may find the results last longer.

Depending on your needs, body shape and breast anatomy, Dr. Steely may use either saline or silicone implants. Both types are approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and come in a variety of shapes, surface textures and sizes, depending on the breast shape to be achieved.

Your Breast Lift Consultation

A consultation with Dr. Steely will determine the best breast lift solution for your body type and personal goals. During your breast lift consultation, Dr. Steely will examine and measure your breasts. He will discuss your options based on your age, the size and shape of your breasts and the condition of your skin – and whether or not an implant is recommended. As the nipple and areola will be moved higher, he will also discuss where they will be located after the procedure. Dr. Steely will prepare a specific plan for you and your body type.

Preparing for the Breast Lift Procedure

You will be provided with instructions in preparation for breast lift surgery, including guidelines on eating and drinking, smoking, and taking or avoiding certain vitamins and medication. Dr. Steely may recommend you have a mammogram to check for breast health and to serve for future comparison. Make sure you have prearranged for help and care for after the surgery.

The Breast Lift Surgery

For your breast lift surgery, you will be under general anesthesia. Dr.Steely will choose from a variety of proven incision techniques, the best one for your specific needs. Whatever your situation, Dr. Steely’s goal is use the shortest incisions to minimize scarring and optimize results.

The breast lift procedure typically takes one and a half to three hours.

After the Breast Lift Procedure

After your breast lift surgery:
■ You will need to wear an elastic bandage or a surgical bra over gauze dressings for a few days until replaced by a soft support to be worn for three to four weeks.
■ Although your breasts will be bruised, swollen, and uncomfortable for a day or two, the pain should not be severe. Dr. Steely will prescribe medications to relieve any discomfort.
■ Stitches will be removed after a week or two.
■ Any numbness in your nipples and breast skin usually fades as the swelling subsides over the next six weeks.
■ Although you may be up and about in a day or two, don't plan on returning to work for a week or more.

Breast Reduction

Why Breast Reduction

Breast reduction surgery is usually performed for relief from serious physical discomfort rather than simply for cosmetic improvement. If you have very large, pendulous breasts, it is possible that you are experiencing a number of medical problems that can be attributed to the excessive weight. These problems can include back and neck pain, skin irritation, skeletal deformities and breathing problems. Your bra straps could be leaving indentations in your shoulders and your breasts may be restricting physical activities. And unusually large breasts can make some women or teenage girls feel extremely self-conscious.

Breast reduction is not recommended for women who intend to breast-feed.
Your Breast Reduction Consultation

Dr. Steely will describe the breast reduction procedure in detail, explaining the risks and limitations. He will make an examination of your breasts, measuring and photographing them for reference during surgery, and afterwards for comparison purposes. Dr. Steely will discuss the factors that may impact the procedure - such as your age, your breast size and shape, and condition and elasticity of your skin. He will discuss where the nipple and areola will be positioned as they will be positioned higher during the procedure. Expect to learn about the anesthesia he will use, the surgery facility and the costs.
Preparing For Your Breast Reduction Surgery

Dr. Steely may require that you have a mammogram (breast x-ray) before surgery. You'll also get specific instructions on how to prepare for surgery, including guidelines on eating and drinking, smoking, and taking or avoiding certain vitamins and medications.
The Breast Reduction Surgery

For your breast reduction surgery, Dr. Steely will use an incision based on the amount of tissue that needs to be removed and lifted. Whenever possible, he uses the shortest incision needed to give you the look you desire.

One technique involves an anchor-shaped incision circling the areola, extending downward, and following the natural curve of the crease beneath the breast. He removes excess glandular tissue, fat, and skin, and moves the nipple and areola into their new position. He then brings the skin from both sides of the breast down and around the areola, shaping the new contour of the breast.Another type of incision he may use involves a lateral oblique incision that results in a shortened and less obtrusive scar. Also, to achieve the breast mound shape, breast tissue is held in place by passing a pedicle of breast tissue under a loop of pectoral muscle, thereby establishing longer-lasting upper-pole fullness.

Generally, Dr. Steely will perform the surgery to allow the nipples to remain attached to their blood vessels and nerves. However, if the breasts are very large or pendulous, the nipples and areolas may have to be completely removed and grafted into a higher location. (This will result in a loss of sensation in the nipple and areola tissue.)

Incisions are usually located around the areola, in a vertical line extending downward, and along the lower crease of the breast. In some cases, techniques can be used that eliminate the vertical part of the scar. And occasionally, when only fat needs to be removed, liposuction alone can be used to reduce breast size, leaving minimal scars.

After Breast Reduction Surgery

After breast reduction surgery:
■ You will need to wear an elastic bandage or a surgical bra over gauze dressings for a few days until replaced by a soft support to be worn for three to four weeks
■ There will be some discomfort for the first couple of days, for which Dr. Steely will prescribe some medication.
■ Dr. Steely uses absorbable sutures for your comfort.
■ At your first menstruation following surgery, your breasts may swell and hurt.
■ Expect some loss of feeling in your nipples and breast skin which usually fades after approximately six weeks.
■ Avoid lifting or pushing heavy objects for three or four weeks.
■ You can most likely return to work (non-strenuous) and social activities in about two weeks.
■ Limit your exercises to stretching, bending, and swimming.
■ For support, you will need a good athletic bra for support.
■ Within six months to a year, your breasts will settle into their new shape.
■ Although Dr. Steely will make every effort to make your scars as inconspicuous as possible, it is important to know that breast reduction scars are permanent. Also, he will make sure that the scars are placed so that you can wear low-cut tops.
■ Of all plastic surgery procedures, breast reduction results in the quickest body-image changes and the highest patient satisfaction rate. You'll be rid of the physical discomfort of large breasts, your body will look better proportioned, and clothes will fit you better.

In performing liposuction surgery or ultrasonic liposuction to remove fat, Dr. Steely aims for as close to perfect proportional body contouring as possible, harmonizing abdomen, hips, back, buttocks, thighs, knees, upper arms, chin, cheeks and neck for a slimmer and aesthetic look.

Dr. Steely offers a number of liposuction techniques, used signally or in combination, depending on the amount and location of fat you need removed.

1. Traditional Liposuction Surgery for removal of larger amounts of fat deposits in hips, back, and buttocks.
2. Ultrasonic Liposuction (VASER Liposelection®) for removal of smaller amounts of fat, for smoothing difficult contour irregularities and scarring, and to precisely shape(or liposculpture) delicate areas such as inner thighs, arms, chin and neck. This procedure is fast and with little pain involved. There is less bruising and recovery is also faster than that of tradition liposuction. When ultrasonic liposuction is combined with postoperative Endermologie treatments (also available at Dr. Steely’s clinic), you can get “fantastic results.”

Why Liposuction

Liposuction is ideal for those wishing to remove stubborn fat deposits in those areas where dieting and exercise and other conventional weight loss methods have little or no impact. You should have normal-weight, firm and elastic skin and have deposits of excess fat in certain areas. You should also be physically healthy, psychologically stable and realistic in your expectations.

Although age is not a major consideration, older patients with reduced skin elasticity may not achieve the same results as a younger patient with tighter skin.

Individuals with diabetes, significant heart or lung disease, poor blood circulation, or those who have had recent surgery near the target area are exposed to higher risks.

Your Liposuction Consultation

At your initial liposuction consultation with Dr.Steely, he will evaluate your health, examine you to locate your fat deposits and evaluate you skin condition. He will explain the body-contouring options most appropriate for you. For example, if believe that you need liposuction in the abdominal area, he may advise that an abdominoplasty or "tummy tuck" may be more effective in meeting your goals. Alternatively, traditional liposuction and/or ultrasonic liposuction may be the best option for you.

In determining the most appropriate treatment for you, Dr. Steely will consider effectiveness, safety, cost and your goals. Dr. Steely will also explain any risks and limitations.

Preparing For Your Liposuction

For your liposuction procedure, Dr. Steely will give you specific instructions on preparation. These will include guidelines on eating and drinking, smoking, and taking or avoiding vitamins, iron tablets and certain medications.

Also, be sure to arrange for transportation home after the surgery and, if needed, have someone at home to help you for a day or two.
Liposuction Options

Traditional Liposuction Surgery - Through a tiny incision, Dr. Steely first infiltrates the tissues with a specialized solution to help with postoperative bruising and discomfort; then inserts a narrow tube or cannula and uses it to remove the fat layer lying deep beneath the skin. . Dr. Steely will endeavor to keep incisions as inconspicuous as possible.

Ultrasonic Liposuction – Using VASER Liposelection® technology, Dr. Steely creates a tiny incision to first fill the target site with a specialized solution to help with postoperative bruising and discomfort; and to make it easier to break up fatty tissue with ultrasonic energy. He then uses a small probe to transmit high frequency sound energy to disrupt fatty tissue while leaving other important tissues intact. Finally, he removes the liquefied fat by means of a gentle suction process that minimizes damage to surrounding tissues.
After Liposuction

After any liposuction procedure:
■ You will need to wear a compression garment under your clothing for comfort and support as your skin conforms to your new contours.
■ Under the compression garment, there will be gauze bandages covering the incisions.
■ Expect some fluid drainage from your incisions over the next twenty-four to forty-eight hours.
■ You may have some discomfort over the next twenty-four to forty-eight hours that can be controlled by medication prescribed by Dr.Steely.
■ Swelling is normal and may be uneven (which is not an indication that there is going to be any asymmetry).
■ To optimize your results, Dr. Steely will urge you to refrain from strenuous activity for the first three to five weeks.

Tummy Tuck

Why a Tummy Tuck/Abdominoplasty

A tummy tuck or abdominoplasty can dramatically reduce the appearance of a protruding abdomen caused by excess fat and/or loose skin that will not respond to diet or exercise. It is particularly helpful for improving your appearance if:

■ You are a man or woman who is in relatively good shape.
■ You are a woman who, through multiple pregnancies, has stretched your abdominal muscles and skin beyond the point where they can return to normal.
■ You are an older patient who has lost skin elasticity through slight obesity and subsequent weight loss.
Your Tummy Tuck Consultation

At your initial tummy tuck consultation, Dr. Steely will evaluate your health, determine the level of fat deposits in your abdominal area, and carefully evaluate your skin tone. Be sure to tell him if you are a smoker, and if you are on any medications, vitamins, or other drugs.

Be forthright in discussing your expectations with Dr. Steely and he will be equally honest with you, describing the types of tummy tuck procedures available and their associated risks and limitations.

If your fat deposits are mainly below the navel, you may need the less complex mini abdominoplasty (or mini-tummy tuck) which can be performed on an outpatient basis. On the other hand, if you have more extensive and wide spread fat deposits, full abdominoplasty may be the better body contouring solution, especially when combined with liposuction of the hips.

Dr. Steely will recommend the procedure that is best for you and will produce the most desired body contour. He will tell you about the anesthesia that he will use, where the surgery is to be preformed and all associated costs.
Preparing for Your Tummy Tuck

Dr. Steely will give you complete instructions on how to prepare for your tummy tuck surgery, including guidelines on eating and drinking, smoking, and taking or avoiding certain vitamins, and medications. Also:

■ No smoking at least one to two weeks before surgery (and do not resume smoking for at least two weeks after your surgery as smoking may increase the risk of complications and delay healing).
■ Avoid overexposure to the sun, especially to your abdomen and do not go on a strict diet, as both these factors can inhibit healing.
■ If you catch a cold or infection of any kind, Dr. Steely will probably postpone your surgery.
■ If you are in top physical condition and have strong abdominal muscles, recovery will be much faster.
■ Arrange for transportation home after surgery and for help a day or two at home, if needed.

Mini and Full Abdominoplasty Surgery Procedures

When performing a full abdominoplasty, Dr. Steely typically makes an incision in your bikini line, immediately above the pubic area. Then a second incision frees the navel from surrounding tissue for repositioning. With mini abdominoplasty, he makes a much shorter incision and he may not move the navel.

Next, Dr. Steely separates the skin from the abdominal wall all the way up to your ribs and lifts a large skin flap to reveal the vertical muscles in your abdomen. He tightens these muscles resulting in a firmer abdominal wall and narrower waistline.

Dr. Steely then stretches the skin flap down and removes the extra skin. He creates a new site for your navel. Finally, he closes all incisions, applies the dressings, and may insert a temporary tube to drain excess fluid from the surgical site.

With a mini abdominoplasty, Dr. Steely separates the skin only between the incision line and the navel, tightens any loose muscle tone, and excises any excess skin.

Full abdominoplasty usually takes two to five hours, depending on the extent of work required. Mini abdominoplasty typically takes an hour or two.
After Your Tummy Tuck

After your tummy tuck:
■ Your abdomen will probably be swollen for the first few days.
■ You will likely feel some pain and discomfort for which Dr. Steely will prescribe medication.
■ Depending how extensive your surgery is, you may be released from the hospital within a few hours or you may need to remain for one or two days.
■ Dr. Steely will give you instructions for showering and changing your dressings.
■ Dr. Steely will remove stitches in a week to ten days.
■ The dressing on your incision may be replaced by a support garment.
■ You may need a few weeks to feel normal again. Some return to work after just a few days; others may take two weeks to rest and recuperate.
■ Start walking as soon as possible. Light exercise actually helps you heal better. If you have never exercised before, it is advisable that you begin an exercise program to reduce swelling, lower the chance of blood clots, and tone muscles. You should, however, avoid vigorous exercise until you can do it comfortably.
■ Scars may actually appear to worsen during the first three to six months as they heal, but this is normal. Expect it to take nine months to a year before your scars flatten out and lighten in color. While they never disappear completely, the scars will not be visible under most clothing, even under bathing suits.

Preparing for Your Face Lift Surgery

Dr. Steely will give you complete instructions on how you should prepare for your face lift surgery. These will include guidelines on eating and drinking, smoking, and taking or avoiding certain vitamins and medications. By carefully following these instructions, you will help your surgery go more smoothly.

If your hair is very short, you might want to let it grow out before surgery, so that it's long enough to hide the iincisions while they heal.

You should arrange transportation for after surgery and have someone help you out for a day or two at home, if needed.
Your Face Lift Surgery

Face lift surgery usually takes several hours-or somewhat longer if you're having multiple procedures. For extensive procedures, Dr. Steely may schedule two separate sessions.

Where Dr. Steely places the incisions and the sequence of steps followed depends on your facial structure.

Dr. Steely begins with incisions above the hairline at the temples, extends them in a natural line in front of the ear (or just inside the cartilage at the front of the ear), and continues behind the earlobe to the lower scalp. If undergoing neck rejuvenation, he may make a small incision under the chin.

In general, Dr. Steely separates the skin from the fat and muscle below. He may trim fat or suction it from around the neck and chin to improve the contour. Dr. Steely then tightens the underlying muscle and tissue, pulls the skin back, and removes the excess. He will use stitches to secure the layers of tissue and close the incisions.

Dr. Steely may place a temporary drainage tube under the skin behind your ear to drain any fluid that might collect there, and he may also wrap your head loosely in bandages to minimize swelling and bruising.

After Your Face Lift Surgery

■ You should not experience any significant discomfort after surgery; if you do, Dr. Steely will prescribe pain medication.
■ Expect some numbness of the skin that will disappear in a few weeks or months.
■ You should keep your head elevated for a couple of days after surgery; this will speed your recovery.
■ If you have a drainage tube inserted, it will be removed one or two days after surgery.
■ If Dr. Steely has used any bandages, he will usually remove them after one to five days.
■ Dr. Steely will remove your stitches after about five days.
■ Your scalp may take longer to heal so Dr. Steely may leave the hairline stitches in for a few days longer.
■ You should be up and about after a day or two, but plan to relax and get plenty of rest for the first week post surgery.
■ Avoid strenuous activity for at least two weeks (walking and mild stretching are fine)
■ Since your skin will be tender and numb, be very gentle with your face and hair.
■ Most patients are back at work about ten days to two weeks after surgery.
■ If needed, you can use special camouflage makeup to mask most bruising that remains.

Eyelid Surgery

With Eyelid Surgery:

■ You can correct droopy upper lids and puffy bags under your eyes that make you look older and more tired than you feel.
■ If you have Asian eyes, it can add an upper eyelid crease without erasing evidence of your ethnicity or racial heritage.
■ If your eyelids are interfering with your vision, eyelid surgery may make a difference.
■ Although most patients are 35 or older, if droopy, baggy eyelids run in your family, you may opt to have eyelid surgery at a younger age.

A few medical conditions can change the approach that Dr. Steely will take to your eyelid sugery:

■ Thyroid problems such as hypothyroidism
■ Graves' disease
■ Dry eye or lack of sufficient tears
■ High blood pressure or other circulatory disorders
■ Cardiovascular disease
■ Diabetes.
■ A detached retina
■ Glaucoma

With Browlift Surgery:

■ You can smooth furrows or frown lines caused by stress or
muscle activity.
■ If you have inherited conditions, such as a low, heavy brow or furrowed lines above the nose, you can achieve a more alert and refreshed look.
■ If you are male and bald or have a receding hairline, you may still be a good candidate for a forehead lift. Dr. Steely will simply change the location of the incision or perform a more conservative procedure.

Your Eyelid Surgery and/or Browlift Consultation

For either eyelid surgery or a browlift, Dr. Steely will discuss you goals and evaluate your face, your skin and underlying bone structure. He will review your complete medical including any previous facial surgeries. He will need to know if you have any allergies; if you're taking any vitamins, medications, or other drugs; and if you smoke.

For Eyelid Surgery candidates, Dr. Steely will:

■ Ask you to provide any relevant information from your ophthalmologist or the record of your most recent eye exam. If you wear glasses or contact lenses, please bring them along.
■ Discuss surgery options, such whether the procedure be performed on all four eyelids or just the upper or lower ones, whether skin as well as fat may be removed, and whether any additional procedures are appropriate.

For Browlift Surgery candidates, Dr. Steely will:

■ Evaluate your face, including the skin and underlying bone.

Dr. Steely will give you an aesthetic evaluation that will include recommendations as to which procedure or combination of procedures will best meet your goals.

For each procedure, Dr. Steely will describe in detail the surgical technique he will use, the type of anesthesia, the surgery facility, and the risks and costs involved. Ask Dr. Steely any questions you may have, about your expectations and any concerns about the surgery.
Preparing for your Eyelid and/or Browlift Surgery

Your surgeon will give you specific instructions on how to prepare for surgery, including guidelines on eating and drinking, smoking, and taking or avoiding certain vitamins and medications. Carefully following these instructions will help your surgery go more smoothly.

While you're making preparations, be sure to arrange for someone to drive you home after your surgery, and to help you out for a few days if needed.
Your Eyelid Surgery and/or Browlift

Eyelid Surgery:
Cosmetic surgery of the eyelids varies widely from a simple excision of skin to more complex repositioning of the lids and underlying tissues. In many patients, a simple skin excision can give the patient a rested, more awake look with a minimum of downtime.

More complex eyelid surgery usually takes up to three hours, depending on the extent of the surgery. Typically, Dr. Steely makes incisions following the natural lines of your eyelids: in the creases of your upper lids, and just below the lashes in the lower lids. He may extend the incisions into the crow's feet or laugh lines at the outer corners of your eyes. Working through these incisions, he separates the skin from underlying fatty tissue and muscle, removes excess fat, and often trims sagging skin and muscle. He closes the incisions with very fine sutures.

Browlift Surgery Options

The endoscopic forehead lift: Typically, an endoscopic forehead lift requires the same preparation steps as the traditional procedure.

However, rather than making one long coronal incision, Dr. Steely will make three, four or five short scalp incisions, each less than an inch in length. He inserts an endoscope (a pencil-like camera device connected to a television monitor) through one of the incisions, allowing him to have a clear view of the muscles and tissues beneath the skin. Using another instrument inserted through a different incision, he lifts the forehead skin and alters the muscles and underlying tissues to produce a smoother appearance. He may lift the eyebrows and secure them into their higher positions by sutures beneath the skin's surface or by temporary fixation devices placed behind the hairline.

For most patients having a classic browlift, Dr. Steely uses a coronal incision that follows a headphone-like pattern, starting at about ear level and running across the top of the forehead and down the other side of the head. He usually makes this incision well behind the hairline so that the scar won't be visible.

If your hairline is high or receding, Dr. Steely will place the incision just at the hairline to avoid adding even more height to the forehead. In patients who are bald or losing hair, a mid-scalp incision that follows the natural pattern of the skull bones is sometimes done. By wearing your hair down on your forehead, most such scars become relatively inconspicuous. Special planning is sometimes necessary for concealing the scar in male patients whose hairstyles will not cover the incision.

If you are bald or have thinning hair, Dr. Steely may recommend a mid-scalp incision so the resulting scar follows the natural junction of two bones in your skull and is less conspicuous.

Working through the incision, Dr. Steely will carefully lift the skin of the forehead so that the underlying tissue can be removed and the muscles of the forehead can be altered or released. He may also elevate the eyebrows and trim excess skin at the incision point to help create a smoother, more youthful appearance.
After Your Eyelid Surgery and/or Browlift

After Eyelid Surgery:
The minor complications that occasionally follow eyelid surgery may include:

■ Blurred vision for a few days.
■ Temporary swelling at the corner of the eyelids.
■ A slight asymmetry in healing or scarring.

After a Browlift:
The immediate post-operative experience after the classic forehead lift may differ significantly than that after an endoscopic.

Endoscopic forehead:

■ You may have some numbness, incision discomfort and mild swelling.
■ Incision site pain is usually minimal, and easily controlled with medication.
■ Dr. Steely will remove any stitches or staples within a week and the temporary fixation devices within two weeks.

Classic forehead:

■You may have some numbness and temporary discomfort around the incision, for which Dr. Steely will prescribe some medication.
■ If you are prone to headaches, Dr. Steely may use an additional longer-acting local anesthesia during surgery as a preventive measure.
■ You should keep your head elevated for two to three days to keep the swelling down.
■ You may have some swelling in the cheeks and eyes which should start to disappear in a week or so.
■ You may have some numbness on the top of your scalp after nerves heal that may be replaced by itching; this may take up to six months to completely disappear.
■ If bandages were used, Dr, Steely will remove them a day or two after surgery.
■ Dr. Steely will remove most stitches or clips within two weeks, perhaps in two stages.

Mommy Makeover

Why You May Want a Mommy Makeover

After pregnancy, many women have excess abdominal skin and a lax abdominal wall and muscles. Although regular exercise can help to firm up those muscles, once these muscles have separated, the only way to bring the separated muscles back together is through a surgical procedure.

The breasts are another part of the body that is greatly affected by pregnancy. During pregnancy, it is common for the breasts to swell, stretching the skin and nipples. After pregnancy and even breast feeding, the size of the breast may shrink leaving excess, loose skin. There are a wide variety of procedures than can be used to correct the changes to the breast.

In addition to the breasts and abdomen, pregnancy sometimes leaves unwanted fat around the tummy, hips, thighs, and arms. Liposuction can be used to remove these fat deposits when diet and exercise won’t.

In your initial consultation with Dr. Steely, an extensive interview process coupled with a physical examination will be performed. Dr. Steely will determine which combination of procedures will give you the desired results you are looking for.

For The Abdominal Area
A tummy tuck or abdominoplasty procedure can be used to remove excess skin and fat, tighten the muscles and narrow the waist line. Depending on the degree of muscle separation and the amount of excess skin and fat, Dr. Steely will determine if a partial or complete tummy tuck is the best option. During this part of the procedure, the muscles are brought back to the midline of your abdomen, the skin is then stretched downward towards the pubic area and extra skin is removed. Once a new naval area is created, all incisions will be closed and dressings applied. Dr. Steely will give you specific instructions on the recovery process.

For the Breasts
Dr. Steely will recommend to you if a breast augmentation or a breast lift will be the best alternative for your desired appearance goals.
■ For a breast augmentation or enhancement

To increase the size and improve the shape of the breasts, Dr. Steely can use a variety of breast implant shapes, sizes, and surface textures. Based on your desired results, Dr. Steely will choose which implant to use and the location for it to be placed.

■ Breast Lift without Implants

If you already have sufficient breast tissue and are not necessarily looking to increase your breast size, Dr. Steely can raise the position of your breasts to your chest wall, creating an naturally augmented breast and increasing cleavage.

■ Breast Lift with Implants

If you do not have sufficient breast tissue and want to increase breast size, a breast lift can be performed with the addition of breast implants. Depending on your body type, anatomy, and body shape, Dr. Steely will determine which type of implant will be best suited for helping you reach your desired look.

For Unwanted Fat
For areas such as the hips, thighs, abdomen, and arms where unwanted fat often gathers, Dr. Steely can treat these areas using a Vaser Liposuction treatment or Traditional Liposuction. A tube will be inserted to the area to be treated and fat cells are gently removed. Depending on the part of the body requiring liposuction, Dr. Steely will use the method best suited for you.
Multiple Procedures, One Mommy Makeover Operation

One of the main benefits to a “I Can’t Believe You’re a Mom!” MAKEOVER™ is that all of your procedures may be performed in one operation. Following Dr. Steely’s specific recommendations after your operation will help to decrease scarring and bruising. Dr. Steely may also recommend a series of post operative Endermologie treatments to help speed along your recovery process. Since you’ll have only one healing period, you’ll be an up and running Super Mom in no time!
