Breast Augmentation
Is there a more quintessential symbol of femininity than the breast? It is not surprising then that breast augmentation in Sacramento and across the country remains one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures. In fact, over 300,000 women each year choose breast enlargement - it is an increasingly typical way for women to achieve a look that better fits their confidence and desire. Breast augmentation surgery can help a woman restore fullness to her breasts after pregnancy or weight loss, achieve a more sensual silhouette, increase breast symmetry, and enhance proportionality between her breasts and her other features.
The reasons for choosing breast augmentation in Sacramento are as varied and unique as the women who have the procedure performed. Clearly, one size does not fit all, and the ideal form and size is a matter of personal taste and judgment. Sacramento plastic surgeon Dr. Scott Green takes the time necessary to understand and appreciate your view of the "ideal" so that you can achieve the result you desire. Whichever surgeon you choose it is important that you find one who is as dedicated to your expectations as you are. There is no more discriminating eye than yours – except for perhaps your cosmetic surgeon's.
All About Breast Augmentation in Sacramento
Today, women have a choice of silicone gel or saline (sterile salt water) breast implants. The choice of implant size, shape and other features will be determined based on your breast anatomy, body type and desired increase in size. Other determinative factors include your lifestyle, goals and personal preferences. Dr. Scott Green will discuss the differences and advantages of each, and help you make the right choice. Breast augmentation is often combined with other cosmetic surgery procedures such as breast lift, tummy tuck, and liposuction in Sacramento.
It is not unusual to experience soreness and swelling as well as bruising around the breasts following breast augmentation. Generally this will begin to dissipate after the first few days following surgery, but you can expect to have some soreness and swelling of the breasts for the first few weeks. Most women are able to return to work after the first week of their recovery. Stitches, if present, are generally removed after seven days. After two weeks a patient can resume limited physical activities. Breasts will begin to show the desired long-term shape and feel after three to four months post-surgery.
How Breast Augmentation Surgery is Performed
A professional anesthesiologist will administer general anesthesia or I.V. sedation may be used for breast augmentation surgery. The method of inserting and positioning your implant will depend on your anatomy and your Sacramento plastic surgeon's recommendation. The incision can be made either in the crease where the breast meets the chest, around the areola (the dark skin surrounding the nipple), or in the armpit. In addition, a saline implant may be placed through an incision at the navel. Every effort will be made to assure that the incision is placed so resulting scars will be as inconspicuous as possible.
Working through the incision, the surgeon will lift your breast tissue and skin to create a pocket, either directly behind the breast tissue (Submammary or Subglandular placement) or may be placed beneath the pectoral muscle and on top of the chest wall (Submuscular placement). Once the implant is positioned within this pocket, the incisions are closed with sutures, skin adhesive and/or surgical tape. A gauze bandage may be applied over your breasts to help with healing.
Breast augmentation in Sacramento usually takes one to two hours to complete. Dr. Green will discuss all of the potential alternatives and advantages of the various procedures that can be performed in the breast implant procedure. Immediately after the procedure your breasts will be noticeably fuller and firmer. Dr. Green will instruct you as to the best sleeping positions to employ during your recovery.
As with any cosmetic surgery, be sure to carefully follow post-surgical instructions regarding taking medications and vitamins, eating, drinking and ceasing smoking.

Breast Lift
As you age, your skin becomes less elastic, making it less likely to return to its normal shape after giving birth or breastfeeding. Combine this with time and the effects of gravity and the result can be drooping breasts (Ptosis) that have lost their youthful shape. In an effort to reduce sagging and to achieve firmer and shapelier breasts, many women have chosen a breast lift in Sacramento, a procedure also known as mastopexy.
This procedure raises and reshapes a patient's sagging breasts. Patients who do not wish to enlarge their breasts can have a breast lift to raise and firm their breasts, resulting in a more youthful breast contour. This is a popular procedure for those women who wish to reclaim the look of their more youthful breasts, without receiving implants or otherwise increasing the overall size of their breasts. For those women who may be unhappy that they have lost a significant amount of breast volume over time, implants inserted in conjunction with a breast lift can increase breast size at the same time as the shape and position of the breasts are enhanced.
All About Breast Lift in Sacramento
A breast lift procedure is designed to reverse the effects of gravity on drooping breasts (ptosis) that have lost their youthful shape. The procedure is all about improving breast shape and position, not about increasing breast volume. For enhanced shape and size, many women choose to combine their breast lift with a breast reduction or breast augmentation in Sacramento. In fact, it is not unusual for women who are getting a breast lift surgery done to also have an augmentation because the breast lift reduces the size of the breast slightly.
Following a breast lift surgery in Sacramento a patient's breasts are bandaged and they are fitted with a surgical bra (a compression garment that is designed to promote healing and reduce swelling of the breasts). Patients should wear this special bra for a month following surgery. Patients can expect to experience some swelling and bruising around the breasts that will last for one to two weeks. Ordinarily modest pain medications are sufficient to reduce this discomfort to a very tolerable level. Some patients also experience a temporary loss of sensation around their nipples.
How Breast Lift Surgery is Performed
General anesthesia or I.V. sedation is administered to the patient by an anesthesiologist prior to this procedure being performed. Incisions are made to follow the natural contour of your breasts so that scarring is less conspicuous. Stretched and excess skin is then excised and the nipples are repositioned higher, in a more attractive position. A mammogram is sometimes required prior to breast surgery.
As with any Sacramento cosmetic surgery procedure, be sure to follow Dr. Green's instructions regarding taking medications and vitamins, eating, drinking and ceasing smoking.

Breast Reduction
While some people think that large breasts represent femininity and beauty, many women with large breasts believe that too much of a good thing is not a good thing. For them, less would be better. These "well-endowed" women have had to restrict their athletic activities because of the size of their breasts, have had to live with chronic neck and back pain due to the weight of their breasts, and may have consequently developed poor posture. On top of all that they are tired of the unwanted attention or comments their breasts attract. For a positive change, many women choose breast reduction in Sacramento from plastic surgeons who can provide firmer, lighter and better-shaped breasts in proportion with the rest of their body.
As technology advances and surgical techniques improve, more women are turning to plastic surgeons to help them adjust their breast sizes to a healthier and more comfortable level. For them, it does not only change their appearance, it can relieve discomfort, free them up to engage in physical activities, and transform a source of embarrassment or discomfort into something they are proud of. It is little wonder that women who undergo breast reduction plastic surgery in Sacramento generally exhibit a very high degree of satisfaction with the procedure.
All About Breast Reduction in Sacramento
Breast reduction surgery is a procedure that tends to rank very high in patient satisfaction. Although it is a complicated surgical procedure, when performed by Dr. Scott Green, it is safe, effective, and life-style improving. Dr. Green may request that you have a mammogram performed prior to undergoing this procedure.
As with other breast operations such as breast lift and breast augmentation in Sacramento, following the procedure the patient's breasts are bandaged. Plastic drainage tubes may be inserted for the first day or two. It is typical for women to experience swelling, aching and some pain for the first few weeks following this procedure. The pain level is ordinarily maintained at a minimal level through the use of occasional pain medications. Strenuous activities should be avoided for the first month following the procedure. Many patients are able to return to work in as early as one week. Some patients note a change in the feeling of their nipples and breasts due to the removal of some nerves. Breast reduction does result in permanent scars, however they are positioned in such a way as to be as inconspicuous as possible, and are generally well concealed with a bra or bathing suit. If patients intend to breastfeed they are encouraged to postpone this procedure as it can affect one's ability to nurse.
How Breast Reduction Surgery is Performed
Breast reduction surgery is performed under general anesthesia. Ordinarily it takes two to four hours. Dr. Green makes incisions in order to remove excess tissue, fat and skin. Nipples will be repositioned in a more attractive position on the contour of the breast and the skin will be tightened to produce a firmer, fuller look to the breast. Occasionally patients will wish to combine other procedures such as liposuction in Sacramento with their breast reduction to remove fat on the side of the chest and achieve an attractive silhouette and shape.
As with any cosmetic surgery, be sure to follow Dr. Green's instructions regarding taking medications and vitamins, eating, drinking and ceasing smoking.

Tummy Tuck
One particularly troublesome spot for both men and women, who are trying to look and feel their best, is their stomach. If previous weight or multiple pregnancies have stretched your abdominal muscles, or if age has simply caused the skin around your stomach to lose its elasticity this may be one area that causes you distress. For many people this problem area does not seem to respond to exercise or even diet, no matter how dedicated you are to healthy living. Perhaps you have tried nearly everything to lose that bulge around your belly, yet the problem still persists. It doesn't have to. If you've found it all but impossible to completely firm up your abdomen don't get frustrated and don't give up. Take a look at the results Dr. Green's Sacramento tummy tuck patients are able to achieve - a smaller waist and a firmer, more flattering stomach.
A tummy tuck can enhance your overall appearance and improve your self-assurance. By tightening your abdominal muscles and ridding yourself of unwanted fat and excess skin around your mid-section, you can optimize your body's contour and enjoy a narrower waistline. As with all similar surgeries and procedures you should only have them performed by a reputable and qualified plastic surgeon who is trained and experienced in body contouring. Dr. Scott Green is a highly-trained and successful Sacramento cosmetic surgeon.
All About Tummy Tucks in Sacramento
Following a tummy tuck surgery a patient may experience swelling in their abdomen and some mild to moderate discomfort. Ordinarily patients will obtain satisfactory relief through the modest use of medications during the early portion of their recovery period. Although patients may wish to remain in repose following their surgery they are ordinarily encouraged to start walking as soon as possible in order to promote healing and their ultimate recovery. Vigorous activities should be postponed until the patient receives approval from the surgeon. Within about a week stitches will be removed and within one to two weeks plastic tubes, which were draining excess fluid from under the skin, will be removed.
Around this time most patients are able to resume their work activities. Some patients are able to resume work more quickly. While tummy tucks do result in some scarring, the scars are located in areas that will generally be hidden by even revealing clothing and swimsuits. Patients often choose to combine tummy tuck with liposuction in Sacramento to remove residual fat deposits and create an overal slimmer midsection.
How a Tummy Tuck Surgery is Performed
Dr. Scott Green offers several surgical techniques in performing a tummy tuck in order to optimize his patient's result. In what is referred to as a full tummy tuck, a surgical incision is made across the lower abdomen right above the pubic area. Following the creation of this initial incision, a second incision is made around the patient's belly button as a means of loosening the surrounding skin. Next, the patient's skin is separated from the wall of abdomen. Following this surgical maneuver, the surgeon pulls the loose abdominal muscles into a new, more desirable location. This results in tighter abdominal muscles, creating a firmer abdominal and smaller waist. Excess skin is then removed and a new opening is made in the anatomically correct position for the belly button.
A second option is a partial tummy tuck, which is a less invasive form of abdominoplasty. Both full and partial tummy tucks can be done independently or in conjunction with liposuction. As with any cosmetic surgery, be sure to follow Dr. Green's instructions regarding taking medications and vitamins, eating, drinking and ceasing smoking.

All About Liposuction Surgery
Liposuction is consistently a top 5 cosmetic procedure in the United States each year. It is the direct removal of fat by the use of a small thin tube called a cannula. Best results are obtained when liposuction is used on the abdomen, flanks, back or other areas where there are isolated pockets of fatty tissue. There are a variety of different liposuction procedures that can be performed depending on the characteristics of the patient and the area to be addressed. You will discuss with Dr. Green which of these procedures is best for you.
Liposuction of a single or several areas may be performed as an independent procedure, but it is routinely combined with other cosmetic surgeries such as tummy tuck, breast lift, and breast augmentation in Sacramento.

Performing Liposuction in Sacramento
Liposuction is usually done under a general anesthetic but can be carried out under a local anesthetic that numbs the area. You will be awake, but comfortably sedated. Generally it is done on an outpatient basis. For most liposuction procedures, Sacramento plastic surgeon Dr. Scott Green will inject a fluid mixture containing a salty solution, local anesthetic and adrenaline into the fatty area being treated. This helps reduce bleeding, bruising and swelling and makes it easier to remove the fat cells.
A cut will be made in your skin and a thin metal tube called a cannula will be inserted. This will be attached to a vacuum pump or a syringe and will be moved about within the fatty tissue to suck out the fat and the fluid. For larger areas, more than one cut may be made to reach all the fatty deposits that are being treated. Once the required amount of fat has been removed, the cannula will be taken out and your incisions will be closed with stitches. Incisions are typically about three millimeters or less than 1/4th inch in length.
A variation of the wet technique is 'tumescent' liposuction. Sacramento men and women who choose this technique receive a larger volume of fluid injected into the treatment site.
Recovery Following Treatment
It is typical for patients to experience some discomfort and bruising in the areas treated with liposuction. Generally speaking, modest pain medications will lessen the discomfort to a tolerable level. The involved area is bandaged to promote healing. You should plan on keeping the bandage on for one to two weeks. Dr. Green will give you advice about resuming your normal activities but ordinarily patients can return to work within a few days and normal activities can be resumed within a few weeks. It may take a few months before the final desirable results are achieved as it can take the swelling some time to dissipate and reveal the slimmed down areas and new contours.
As with any Sacramento cosmetic surgery procedure, be sure to follow your plastic surgeon's instructions regarding taking medications and vitamins, eating, drinking and ceasing smoking.
Lipostructure
Dr. Green also performs an innovative cosmetic procedure called lipostructure which is designed to restore fullness to facial features which may have grown gaunt from aging. It is also effective in cosmetically enhancing other body parts, such as the buttocks or breasts. The procedure involves the transplant of fat from one body area to another. With this procedure, you receive the compound benefit of taking fat from an area where you don't want it, and using it to fill out areas in need. Frequently, patients who undergo this procedure desire a restored fullness to features such as the chin, jaw, cheek and eyelid. The effect can be a remarkably younger, more vibrant, appearance. It is a particularly popular procedure for those patients who are looking to add fullness to their lips (lip augmentation). Others may be looking to add roundness or a more flattering shape to their buttocks (gluteal augmentation) or breasts.

Post-Bariatric Surgery
If you have recently undergone a gastric bypass or other bariatric surgery you naturally may be considering a cosmetic surgery procedure in Sacramento to assist with your body contouring goals and overall appearance. Your recent weight loss may have improved your body contours, but in many cases additional refinement is required. Many people still have residual pockets of excess fat, which are best removed through liposuction in Sacramento.
Also, patients who have been obese frequently have stretched their skin beyond the body's natural ability to repair and reshape. The dramatic weight loss of these patients has left many with loose skin, lacking elasticity, which hangs on their slimmer frames. And these effects are not limited to the body alone. Many post-bariatric patients have also lost considerable weight in their face and neck, remedying the weight problem, but creating the new problem of wrinkly, loose skin around the face and neck. Dr. Scott Green specializes in many body-contouring procedures that are common for these post-bariatric patients including:
Lower body lift
Abdominoplasty
Thigh lift
Face lift
Neck lift
Breast lift
Upper arm lift

Blepharoplasty
It is hard to look and feel your best if you have loose skin over your eyes or bags under your eyes. Your eyes are the central feature of your face, and signs of aging around your eyes may be the first thing people see. If your eyes are telling the world that you look more tired, or older than you feel, you may want to consider laser eyelid surgery in Sacramento, CA, a procedure also known as blepharoplasty. Eyelid surgery can take years off your appearance by correcting drooping, swollen eyelids to make you look more youthful and even more energetic.
Eyelid surgery is a cosmetic surgery procedure in Sacramento to remove fat, usually along with excess skin and muscle from the upper and lower eyelids. Eyelid surgery can correct drooping upper lids and puffy bags below your eyes - features that make you look older and more tired than you feel - and may even interfere with your vision. It may also improve crow's feet or other wrinkles, as well as dark circles under your eyes, but will not lift sagging eyebrows. While it can add an upper eyelid crease to Asian eyes, it will not erase evidence of your ethnic or racial heritage. blepharoplasty can be done alone, or in conjunction with other Sacramento cosmetic surgery procedures including facelift and brow lift.
All About Laser Eyelid Surgery in Sacramento, CA
Eyelid surgery usually takes one to three hours to perform. This surgery is almost always performed under intravenous sedation with local anesthesia. The patient is drowsy, pain-free, and unaware of the procedure that is being performed. It may be combined with a facelift or brow lift surgery. Generally there is only minimal pain (tightness and soreness of the eyelids) following this procedure, however modest bruising will be present. Patients are encouraged to keep their heads elevated to help reduce the bruising and swelling. Bruising is mostly gone after eight to ten days and sutures are removed (if present) in four or five days. Makeup can be worn to cover any remaining bruising or discoloration. Sunglasses and sun block should be worn for the first few weeks when you are outside. Some patients experience sensitivity to light and mild vision blurring for a few weeks. You will be able to resume your typical activities within one to two weeks and strenuous activities within two to three weeks.
How Eyelid Surgery – Blepharoplasty – is Performed
There are variations on the types of eyelid surgery that can be performed. Every Sacramento cosmetic surgery patient should become educated on the various procedures available and through consultation with their plastic surgeon elect the procedure that best suits their needs.
Dr. Scott Green performs both a traditional blepharoplasty and a laser blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) in Sacramento, CA. In a traditional blepharoplasty incisions are made along the natural lines of the eyelid in order to conceal any scarring. Some lower eyelid surgery can even be performed from the inside, completely concealing any trace of scarring. With a laser blepharoplasty a laser is used to make an incision in the conjunctiva of the lower eyelid (inside the eyelid), after which the fat is removed with the laser. The advantage of this procedure is that there is no visible scar on the lower eyelid, bruising is rare or minimal, and the patient may return back to work more quickly than with the traditional blepharoplasty.
As with any cosmetic surgery, be sure to follow your plastic surgeons instructions regarding taking medications and vitamins, eating, drinking and ceasing smoking.

Facelift
Age tends to show, perhaps more than anywhere else, in the face. As people age, the effects of gravity, exposure to the sun, and the stresses of daily life can be seen in their faces. These factors, and others, can cause the appearance of your face to age prematurely. Creases form between the nose and mouth; the jaw line grows slack and jowly; folds and fat deposits appear around the neck. And there are no clothes to conceal or hide these imperfections.
For patients in Sacramento, a facelift can't stop the aging process it can "set back the clock," improving the most visible signs of aging by removing excess fat, tightening underlying muscles, and redraping the skin of your face and neck. A facelift can be done alone, or in conjunction with other procedures such as a forehead lift, eyelid surgery, or nose reshaping. This procedure, if performed by a skilled, board-certified plastic surgeon such as Dr. Scott Green, can make you look years younger while improving your appearance. You can still age gracefully, just a little more at your own pace.
What You Should Know About Facelift Surgery
Facelift procedures, also known as rhytidectomy, have evolved over the past few generations into a safe, predictable method to rejuvenate the face, and erase the most visible signs of aging. Dr. Scott Green uses proven techniques for facelift cosmetic surgery. Facelift surgery can take several hours to perform. It may be combined with eyelid surgery, rhinoplasty, or other Sacramento cosmetic surgery options. Typically patients experience minimal discomfort following a facelift procedure. Pain medications are available to control modest pain.
After bandaging is removed your face may appear bruised, swollen and pale. Recovery time for a full facelift is approximately two to three weeks. The first two to three days is marked by a feeling of tightness and swelling. This improves over the following week. Any distortion of features or stiffness should diminish after just a few weeks. During this recovery period patients are instructed to avoid strenuous activity and exertions. Sun exposure should be avoided during the first few weeks. Modest pain is usually controlled with the use of oral pain medication. After a few weeks you may feel comfortable returning to your social calendar, without the need to explain discoloration and swelling to your friends and associates.

How Sacramento Facelift Surgery is Performed
Depending upon the improvements you would like to make various options are available on the facelift procedure, including mini face-lifts, neck lifts, and neck tightening. Most of the incisions in a facelift surgery are done along natural creases in the skin or above the hairline. This hides most scarring from view. During the surgery facial muscles are tightened and excess skin is trimmed. Fat may also be suctioned or trimmed to assist with aesthetically enhancing the contours of your facial structure. As with any Sacramento cosmetic surgery procedure, be sure to follow your plastic surgeons instructions regarding taking medications and vitamins, eating, drinking and ceasing smoking.

Nose Surgery
Rhinoplasty, or surgery to reshape the nose, is one of the most common of all plastic surgery procedures in the Sacramento area. Rhinoplasty can sculpt a more desirable looking nose by either reducing or increasing the size of your nose, changing the shape of the tip or the bridge, narrowing the span of the nostrils, or changing the angle between your nose and your upper lip. It may also correct a birth defect or injury, or help relieve some breathing problems. Whether the change you desire is subtle, or more dramatic, we are certain that when you see the results of the Sacramento rhinoplasty procedures performed by Dr. Scott Green, you will be very interested in how the procedure can benefit you.
Men and women who choose rhinoplasty are often interested in other cosmetic surgery procedures, including chin augmentation, breast enhancement, and liposuction in Sacramento. Feel free to talk with Dr. Green if you are considering more comprehensive improvement of your face or body areas.
All About Rhinoplasty in Sacramento
Most nasal surgery is performed on an outpatient basis. Depending on the procedure Dr. Green may use general anesthesia and/or sedation. With local anesthesia, you'll usually be lightly sedated, and your nose and the surrounding area will be numbed; you'll be awake during the surgery, but relaxed and insensitive to pain. With general anesthesia, you'll sleep through the operation. General anesthesia is usually better for more extensive Rhinoplasty or Septal surgery. Local anesthesia is usually better for small adjustments or hump removal.
Keeping the head and neck elevated will help reduce swelling and discomfort. After surgery, tape, an external splint, and gauze will be applied to support the outside of the nose. Sometimes soft rubber splints will be used to support the inside. Packing is not necessary in most cases. During the first 24 hours you may expect your face to feel swollen and black eyes are typical. Swelling and bruising can be minimized with the use of cold compresses. Any stitches or splints will be removed in five to seven days and any swelling, bruising or nasal sensitivity will last about seven to ten days. You will start to see results in as little as two weeks with further details revealed over the next six months.
A little drainage is common during the first few days following surgery, and you may continue to feel some stuffiness for several weeks. Dr. Green will ask you not to blow your nose for a week or so, while the tissues heal.
How Nose Surgery is Performed
Rhinoplasty usually takes an hour or two, though complicated procedures may take longer. During surgery the skin of the nose is separated from the bone and cartilage, which is then sculpted to the desired shape. The type of sculpting will depend on your problem and the doctor's preferred technique. Finally, the skin is secured to the new underlying framework. As with any cosmetic surgery, be sure to follow your plastic surgeon's instructions regarding taking medications and vitamins, eating, drinking and ceasing smoking.

Mommy Makeover
"Mommy Makeover" is a fairly recent term, coined to describe a series of surgical procedures that directly address recurring cosmetic issues following childbirth. These Sacramento plastic surgery procedures correct and improve those areas of a woman's body that are most dramatically impacted by pregnancy and nursing; i.e. the stomach and breasts. While there is no greater joy than childbirth and raising children, every mother knows the process exacts a physical toll. And while mothers do not lament the decision that led to their stretched breasts, bulging stomachs and weight gain, now they do not have to live with those consequences as they once did.
Certainly diet and exercise can help regain your pre-pregnancy shape, but that effect has its limits. The Mommy Makeover can help reverse the detrimental physical effects that pregnancy has had on a woman's body.
A breast lift with or without breast augmentation, can restore the shape and position of the breast to how it was prior to nursing.
Liposuction in Sacramento can remove the excess adipose that has accumulated around the thighs and belly during the weight gain that accompanies pregnancy.
A tummy tuck procedure can help a woman regain the tighter, flatter, firmer stomach than she previously enjoyed.
